Teacher Resident Grant Goes Unfunded
San Diego Unified School District was informed it will no longer receive $200,000 ($50,000 annually for 4 years) from the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Quality Partnership Discretionary Grant for our Teacher Resident Program.
Our grant funds were earmarked to support teacher residents with professional learning experiences, along with opportunities to learn from mentor teachers effective strategies for student learning and instruction.
Our existing Residency grants do not have funds available to provide these additional resources for school sites hosting residents.
Our District originally received the notification from San Diego County Office of Education back in December 2024 about the Teacher Quality Partnership Discretionary Grant award. To date, our District has not received the signed agreement needed for the San Diego County Office of Education to release the funds, which means we lost funds that we hadn’t processed yet.

Green Bus Funding Being Held Up
San Diego Unified School District’s $12 million for green school bus funding is being impacted by the federal funding freeze. These funds were earmarked for the purchase of 30 new electric school buses and related infrastructure. The last communication we received from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding our clean school bus funding was February 4. We are awaiting further guidance from the EPA
